Bose QuietComfort 35 II Headphones Versus Apple AirPods Max

These noise-canceling headphones are much cheaper than the AirPods Max.

How’s the sound quality? Watch this video – we tested this extensively.

In summary, to my ear, it’s a draw.

Both headphones sound great and have excellent active and passive noise cancelation.

Here’s some other points in favor of the QC 35 II.

They are significantly lighter. My pair weighs only 8.2 ounces. Compare that to the 13.5 ounces of the AirPods Max.

Apple AirPods Max Versus Bose QuietComfort 35 II Review (28)-crop

Apple AirPods Max are quite heavy, 5 ounces heavier than the Bose. That’s because of the aluminum ear cups, and other things. The AirPods Max feel much better built though.

Why is the Max so heavy? They are very solidly constructed, for example, the ear cups are made with aluminum.

The Bose fold down into a more compact shape too – so it’s easier to pack these for travel.

Airpods Max Looking like a purse in the smartcase

The smartcase tells the AirPods to conserve battery – that’s good because there is no on/off button. But, it does look like a purse, and it’s not a compact shape. Shown next to the zippered case for the Bose QuietComfort headphones.

Downsides for the Bose are as follows: No in-depth iOS integration, and they don’t have a Transparency mode.

Having said all that, the Bose are WAY cheaper.

Both sound great. Both have excellent noise-cancellation. But, one is $300 cheaper than the other! If you are on a budget, you can’t go wrong with the Bose.
